See if your neighborhood has alternative energy providers. This information is often found on the main website of your local gas or electric company. TVS and other major electronics "suck" a lot of electricity even when not in use. Put them in a surge protector and switch to "On" only if you want to actively use the items.

I switched from my house the lights to fluorescent lights and "drastically" my electric bill to about half of what I used to pay. For example, I can now have four 15 watt lamps on, the generation of the same light as a former a 60 watt bulb. Huge difference!
